The Hague Cityscape, upclose and personal. When you feel the texture of a city you are very much in it, so close you are almost a part of it. In this body of work, I used an evolution of my favourite art process. Starting with a bright vivid ground I lay the ground work for composition and explore many ideas, then I go back to my studies and decide on which direction the painting will continue. As the decision forms, I mix my oils in intentionally muted colours for contrast and tension. With intentional strokes, my goal is that the forms are defined without any overwork to allow the viewer’s mind to fill in the gaps and enjoy the medium as well as the visual outcome.

The charm of the canals is in the community around it. From the other side of the water, the distance gives you a perspective to appreciate as though you are painting a portrait of The Hague, in this instance it is not the famous landmark side, but the lovely residential side that may often be overlooked. A moment of Serenity Capturing various moments when you catch yourself at different times in different states of serenity, energy, relaxation and bliss, you look around and feel these emotions surge from within coaxed by your surroundings. Drifting between the raw emotion and back again to the landscape like a story meant to soothe and ground you where you’d rather be. “It’s always warm somewhere” celebrates warmth in several ways: South East Asia’s weather, the warmth of an invitation and a warm break on the other side of the equator during a cold winter. It is the essential reminder that you can seek the warmth you need in every form, and that it is waiting for you ‘From the window of a plane?’ I’m asked, yes! in the sense that the plane is perception. The organic shape of the "window" inserts the metaphysical suggestion. Wondering if our perception (outside the window) is more interesting or after more information is processed with colour and reality hits. My impression is that it is the contrast and connection between those 2 states of experiencing and remembering the same scene.

A statement piece on its own or accompanied by one or more of the other Marsam paintings, these large scale artworks boast a freshness and expressiveness that is complemented by the scale of the artwork and the freedom of its lines. Paying tribute to the collection theme: Marsam, which means studio in Arabic. The beauty of the language is apparent where the place is named after the activity it holds, so it literally translates to the place where drawing happens. as though the name being attached to a precious ritual and indispensable activity. If a Marsam exists then so must art. One of four paintings in this format and theme, Eye of the beholder depicts the studio where the art materialises on every surface suspended in the air and dissolved in the water. We are asking the everlasting question of what is art, is it the outcome or the process, the person, place, object or journey.

Ode to the end of a beautiful day, a day well spent. In this instance, we have an implied intimacy of a whimsical centrepiece being prepared for dinner against a glorious view inspiring beauty and care in everyday life, every dinner is special and self and family are cherished. Created in 2023, “Dressed” has been revamped end of 2024 moving it a bit further into the evening with the lights on and reflections making a feature keeping our first guest to arrive company - Moon. The decision for change sometimes comes from experimentation and sometimes from necessity, in this instance the timechange was guided by the natural assumption and consequence the mind would make, meeting the painting where -or should I say when- it was the height of excitement and capturing that fleeting moment before the first doorbell chimes.

Inspired by the village of Tunis in Fayoum this painting expresses a dance between the numerous birds the area boasts and the earth with its luscious treasures and pottery, the village in the background showcases the influence of nature on the architecture and the captivating skyline. Various visuals are employed engaging the viewer’s interest between line and form, transparency and opacity creating a renewed experience every time it is appreciated.

In a nightfall atmosphere the birds are flying home over the village of Tunis and lake Qarun. Famous for its bird wildlife and pottery the area is rich with colour and the earth gives us our vessels of life in the form of pottery and villages. The lake itself is a natural vessel extending along the lengths of history and time. Forms are cut out and amplified by the complementary use of colour. Then brushstrokes are loose inviting the eye to wander around with interest and pleasure.

A village scene in Tunis Fayoum captured in monochrome, yet the choice of colour is striking. At first glance you enjoy the choice of hue then the colour melts away leaving the tones and contrast to tell the story of the shady path down to the lake. The brush strokes are varied to express the different textures in the scene. The composition guides the eye down the path up to the palms and around to start the tour again finding new details and angles.

Study in monochrome of Abla’s Atelier and Art Center, limited to two colours for focus on values and tone. This subject lent itself very generously with interior vs exterior lighting, shadow and form. The unusual absence of colour proves very effective in capturing the viewer’s attention highlighting the architecture, This painting leaves a lasting impression and will remain a timeless record of this moment.

A more classical impression of the village of Tunis Fayoum from the point of view of a visitor on their rooftop garden, this painting has all the elements that make you feel like you have arrived to the countryside and its blissful simplicity.

A statement piece, this large scale artwork boasts a close to scale reclining figure paying tribute the the collection theme: a state of bliss. Finding oneself in a special setting frees the mind and the soul to grow and experience all our surroundings with intensity and passion, we become one with nature and larger than life and all its material details. The golden arches give context where the viewer has the perspective of an onlooker from afar admiring the scene, some technical sophistication is employed with the use of monochrome colours instead of solid wall to excite the mind completing the picture and give a feeling of transparency while paying respect to the impact of light, shadow and contrast on the entire composition. Wabi sabi style line work exposing the under layers of the painting creates an everlasting engagement with the viewer.
