In “A piece of gum in the shape of a —” the seemingly mundane setting of a paved street is the center of attention to a network of cameras, routers and TV screens. The cameras zoom in on details of the pavement, devoting their attention to observing and understanding these tiles and the archive they hold. In this installation, the camera is subverted from its conventional role, not to capture moments of importance, but to highlight the continuous, unremarkable stream of everyday life, proposing a poetic alternative of the same reality that surrounds us every day; in our house, at our work, and on the street in between.

They were the last ones remaining after everything was taken out; the chairs, the tables, the coffee breaks, the chit-chat. In an attempt to escape the void that remained, they found the crack in between the two layers of glass, and that’s where they spent their last moments, on their back, one eye on the outside world, and one on the empty office building that hosted their entire life.

It sometimes feels like this writing (,drawing, capturing) is all coincidental. Like the stream of thoughts runs and runs and writing is just a momentary registration of this stream. The moment when the needle touches a spinning record, or a cup is held under a waterfall. I like the cup with the waterfall more as a comparison. Although it’s also not really accurate. Anyways, the cup of water is filled and then that can continue to live a life. A more focussed one. Or it can be frozen or boiled or boiled with an egg in it. See, now it’s becoming too big again. Whoever thought it was a good idea to use water as a metaphor for writing?

A colaborative exhibition with Heidi Holmström, exploring the topic of ‘phatic utterances’. Diving into the functions of small talk and chit-chat. ‘Breakroom’ (Baroeg Mulder) One of the rooms in the exhibition takes the unmistakable form of a coffee breakroom. During scheduled coffee breaks the audience undergoes a process that starts with a cup of coffee and an automated response to the situation: performing the act of chit-chat, followed by a realisation of that performance, exposing the unspoken scripts we follow in certain situations. A collection of mugs with typical coffee-mug texts is provided for the coffee breaks.

It’s been years since those bike rides, talking about what to do in case of a zombie apocalypse [...] These days are much different. Nobody asks me what I would do if the world would end and nobody tells me my teeth are too big. In this work long, slow recordings of a fragmented motorbike are accompanied by scattered anecdotes and memories in text, rolling across the bottom of the frame. Together they suggest a landscape for the audience to relate their personal nostalgia to.

A performance reacting to a clay sculpture by Maas Mulder. In this exhibition our brotherhood-turned-friendship enters a collaboration. This performance takes 20 minutes to reflect on the dichotomy of brotherly friendship; finding autonomy while cherishing our similarities. We shared our youth, how do we go from here?

2024Trickle Catalogus Afdeling Fotografie, KABK Den Haag, Nederland foolcollective.cargo.site/Trikle The publication is a note to The Fools’ journey where stories of absurdity, vulnerability, contemplation, and meditation are told and expressed in various visual languages. It is a voyage into a diverse selection of works, a journey of the growing Fool. The theme of Trickle refers to how we experienced our time, to always be trickled and disoriented, accompanying each other in the journey of The Fool. Curated in an intuitive way, photographs are connected like the transience of water drops, trickling through the pages. Trickle is our debut as young artists towards the public. It is the first publication of the collective that reveals our profession as growing photography students. We would like to share our experience and journey through the medium of a book. It is a starting point of our ongoing collective journey. By sharing our work and stories we evoke everyone’s memory of togetherness. We want to pass on the courage of turning back to the starting point, and embracing the journey of the unknown, just as the fool does. To not get discouraged by obstacles but to learn and keep moving.

2024Meander at Billytown Blog/Vlog Den haag, Nederland artviewer.org/meander-at-billytown/ It meanders. And if it doesn’t it will. The blood crawls where it cannot go, right? And so it bab- bles. /// If an artistic practice is flexible and fluid and curious, and it often is, you could compare it to a stream of water that meanders. And the pebbles in that stream could be little ideas that get picked up along the way and with every bend they get polished and with every turn they change shape. Then an exhibition could be one of those corners where these particular stones come together and people that are curious could come there, step into the stream.

2022Concrete Affection - a group show Blog/Vlog Cyprus soloshow.online/concreteaffection.html Concrete Affection is an offsite art exhibition that comes from a force to emphasize and frame an unexpected abandoned public space. The works presented in this exhibition have a symbiotic relationship with one another; together they respond to the space, creating an experience of order and delicacy existing in chaos and accidents. This show aims to question the inside by going outside, challenging the dynamics of authority and the value of traditional exhibiting locations. The artists involved are sparked from industrial and performative matters.
