infoThe video work captures the interaction between horses and the engineered environments designed for their maintenance, exploring the relationship between horses and technology in contemporary equine care. Once vital to labor and agriculture, the horse now finds itself in controlled spaces of leisure and wellness, where machines dictate movement and routine. Set within the sterile environments of equine healthcare, the work reflects on themes of care and control, nature and machine, organic life and mechanized systems. The wellness treatments become both a tool of healing and a symbol of how animal life is shaped by industrial rhythms.

Even the birds stopped singing for the occasion. Or maybe they still sing but it is too cold for their song to reach my room – sound travels slower in cold air, you know. Recess The Hague, Nederland lyyraitala.com/recess-1 The video work delves into the dynamics between leisure and labor portraying a fictional corporate space as a stage where both performers and automated machines partake in a synchronized performance. The workers are entering a trance-like state, aking to hibernation, while the tireless machines continue their tasks. The work ‘Recess’ explores the notion of invisible labor and the way we are being seen and observed in the everyday environment where the work takes place. The video presents a clinical, neutral, and recognizable setting where resting workers break the usual behavioral codes of the workplace. By showcasing the space through the perspective of a robot vacuum, the installation makes public the ways labor occupies both our mental and physical spaces, highlighting the automated routines that define how we humans function. The work is embracing boredom and rest while questioning our compulsion to define ourselves through productivity and action.

Counting stars, shooting sheep The Hague, Nederland //lyyraitala.com/counting-stars,-shooting-sheep The video work ’Counting stars shooting sheep’ consists of fantasies where innocence and power are shifting back and forth. The work explores the dynamics of girlhood and conventions of femininity by creating scenes where things can spark and playing take over. The work is mixing reality and fantasy in the created stage for the characters, where room is left for improvisation. The childlike imagination and created worlds around are morphing with the unconscious mind and desires, emphasizing the absurdity of domestic roles.
