2024Simulacrum Magazine: Borders & Phantoms De Nieuwe Anita Amsterdam, Nederland Can we rely on the arts to find ways to respect those who are no longer here, as well as those who have not-yet arrived? Can art help us to revive forgotten memories? How can art help us to create a “third way” to relate to heritages that have been erased? On April 7th, Simulacrum Magazine invites you for the launch of the two latest editions, BORDERS & PHANTOMS, in an afternoon filled with visual arts, performances and readings. With BORDERS & PHANTOMS, Simulacrum Magazine opens an experimental series of events inviting visual artists, performers, artists, and visitors to explore trans-disciplinary forms of doing and knowing that exist beyond a magazine’s page. denieuweanita.nl/agenda/simulacrum-magazine-borders-phantoms/ Groep

2023Bridging the Thesis at the Joint Research Day Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten Den Haag, Nederland The KABK Theory Platform presents from 10:30 - 12:00 Bridging the Thesis, a conversation with two alumni about their thesis research, writing process, practice, and the bridges between them. The conversation between the public and the two alumni, Pam Breedveld (BA I/M/D) and Clara Sharell (BA Photography) will be moderated by Julie Goslinga, fourth year I/M/D student. Thesis 'My present is more than I remember', by Clara Sharell: My present is more than I remember explores the entanglements of word and image and their role in constructing memory and identity. Delving into personal memories and intergenerational connections within her family, Clara seeks to understand how inherited experiences and stories shape her personal and artistic identity. Further, the paper examines the existential role of collective and familial memory in shaping Jewish and German-Jewish identity. The research paper consists of fragmented subchapters and uses a range of texts and styles, including sociological and art-historical theories from authors such as Maurice Halbwachs, Roland Barthes, and Marianne Hirsch, as well as experimental diary entries, poems, and personal anecdotes. In her presentation, Clara will talk about her writing and research methods and the way her research influenced her graduation project and vice versa. She will also touch upon using different writing styles (theoretical, anecdotal, experimental, personal) as a guiding research method throughout all of her final year at the KABK. researchplatform.art/events/research-day/ Duo

2023KABK graduation show 2023 Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten Den Haag , Nederland “My present is more than I remember” is a research project into inter-generational connections and the webs of relationships that shape our lives. Through my work, I aim to explore the links between photography, memory, and writing, and to dive into the correlations and coexistence of past, present, and future. These explorations move me towards a better understanding of the factors that have influenced the circumstances and locations in which my family has existed. I invite you to step into a different perception of time, wherein we are intricately connected across generations. graduation.kabk.nl/2023/clara-sharell Groep

2023In the shelves above the bars: Artists work in horeca Amare Den Haag, Nederland In the shelves above the bars: Artists work in horeca brings together young artists based in The Hague, who met working in the horeca team at Amare. Organised and curated by Clara Sharell and Emily Stevenhagen, who also present work in the show, six up-and-coming artists display their paintings, photographs, and more in the shelves behind the bars around the building. The exhibition aims to showcase the creative background of people who serve the public everyday, within the framework of the building where they met, and spend much of their time. They were inspired by conversations they had during slow moments in shifts, working behind bars together, waiting for people to collect their coats. They noticed the ways some of their practices overlapped, and how they approach their work/art balances. Just as it is necessary for many young artists to work two jobs, young artists often don't have studios and work in their bedrooms. Two jobs/two people. Through this, using space that is already there, on the cultural hub of the city, this exhibition highlights the true reality of many young artists' combined work lives. www.amare.nl/nl/pQgoZIm/amarestories/in-the-shelves-above-the-bars--artists-work-in-horeca Groep

2023On Food, Conviviality and Cultures Millepiani Rome , Italië In many ways, food can be considered as a synonym for life. In fact, it is not just something we feed our body with, keeping it alive thanks to its nutritive properties. It is also a vehicle of words, values and occasions like collectivity, culture, traditions and sharing. These two registers - the practical and functional, at side of the other, which is more poetic and abstract - are among the main focus of the group exhibition On Food, Conviviality and Cultures, open at Spazio Millepiani in Rome from the 24 March to the 13 April 2023. The photos, digital and video works here selected look at the same topic under different points of view, highlighting various practices, and, at the same time mirroring the reality as it is. Along this path, where nothing is left to chance, the whole spectre of daily life is unveiled, in all its facets - from trivial to aulic, from metaphoric to sentimental manifestations. www.loosenart.com/blogs/magazine/on-food-conviviality-and-cultures Groep

2022Unfolding Territories: Co-creating Through Cartographies of Care The Grey Space in The Middle Den Haag , Nederland Unfolding Territories: Co-creating Through Cartographies of Care is expanding the definition of care, aiming at the broader understanding of what care means in the contemporary world and how art can be seen as a manifestation and tool of care. The act of creation is an act of care, creating work is a movement towards an expression of ones honest desire to connect with others. In the exhibition, they share what they care about, in the ever-changing world that surrounds them. The Cockroach Collective is a group of 45 students infesting the landscape of photography and exploring the possibilities of the medium to go beyond traditional definitions. They have been driven to create an exhibition where everyone –the audience and the artists– felt seen and heard. At their core, they are guided by equality, inclusivity, and respect. The willingness to take care of one another is a representative trait of the time when we all need additional support. These turbulent years are reflected in the ways they create work and the themes that are explored. Furthermore, they want to challenge photography and explore it as a means of care to reflect our world today. thegreyspace.net/program/unfold-territories/ Groep

Dough sticks to my kitchen counter every week Photography KABK Den Haag , Nederland “Dough sticks to my kitchen counter every week” speaks of the ability to find communality no matter where we are, the ability to be home to one another. It calls to be seen and to be heard; to be proud and confident about being Jewish. Through these connections and collaborations, I give space and new associations to an identity that stays invisible to many people.

Vandaag is een blauwe dag Photography KABK Den Haag , Nederland I didn‘t grow up in The Hague - how would it be if I had? This project is an attempt to recreate childhood memories in The Hague - a city that has never been my initial home. Reconnecting to my inner child through the means of photography, drawing, and writing. Rediscovering the city through the lens of my inner child, letting myself play with it, talk to it, be inspired by it, and make new memories.
