This animation was commissioned by BKKC for the project brabant vertelt. With the use of an app, you can walk around the slightly downtrodden commercial area Ekkersrijt, located north of Eindhoven. You are guided by an audio tour made by writer Rob van Kranenburg and artist Bas van den Hurk, starting at the Ikea, following the 'meubelboulevard' (furniture mall), and circling office buildings and the freeway. Their cultural criticism is prompted by the dynamics of consumption and working environments that reflect the Zeitgeist. Public space artworks along the way are reminders of believes and aspirations that are now outdated. I made an animation that plays on your smartphone at the end of the route, based on the questions that are posed in the conversation between van Kranenburg and van der Hurk.

I was one of seven comtemporary artists who were invited to add their own topical and personal standpoints in the form of wall paintings that establish a dialogue with the works on display. The theme of my cabinet was melancholy and it featured works by Jan Mankes, the brothers Maris, Theo van Doesburg, Henri Fantin-Latour and others. It turned out a quite romantic, athmospheric and intimate little room.
