In my project I intend to create a socially urgent photo book and a future exhibition in collaboration with Ukrainian artists, to show how much impact the full-scale russian invasion has on the cultural development and manifestation within the Ukrainian society, and what constitutes a critical cultural infrastructure. In search along the frontline cities Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih and Kherson, I want to learn about the dynamics of cultural production of Ukrainian artists who stayed put and kept expressing themselves despite trauma and daily russian destruction. Halverwege maart 2020 komt het openbare leven in Nederland abrupt tot stilstand door de uitbraak van de coronapandemie in Nederland. Van de ene op de andere dag verandert de openbare ruimte in een onnatuurlijke biotoop waar mensen elkaar schaamteloos mijden. Daarbij wordt niet alleen het samenleven bedreigd, maar gaat de bedreiging ook uit van het samenleven. Gemeenschapszin is een riskant verlangen, waarbij de hele grammatica van het sociale verkeer is herschreven. In de serie ‘Den Haag in tijden van Corona’ toont van der Kooy een reeks stadslandschappen, waarin Haagse pleinen, straten en parken het decor worden waarin ons verlangen naar verbondenheid botst met de coronamaatregelen.
