Matthijs Kiel : "/ Approach on identity The Self is based on a physical and sensory existence in relation to a 3-dimensional surrounding. As an artist I see myself as the western romantic wanderer that is tormented by the ‘hypotrophy’ of its ‘self’ as well by the awkwardness of the ‘nature’ that he seeks. In other words: The search for contact with nature is the expression of the tragedy of its incompatibility with it. / Approach on landscape The border of the suburban surrounding contains a shift back and forward between the architecture of the urban landscape in geometrical sense and amorph shapes of natural untouched landscape. I focus on compilations and situations of arbitrariness in the urban and suburban landscape that depict this incompatibility in form and structures, revealing images of dialectical relationships between nature and man".
