<Light Comes In, the Lights Turn Off> takes place in the near-future, observing the day of a middle-aged man who lives alone with artificial intelligence that manages his household. Through this AI, which not only takes on the domestic labor but also the emotional care, Yee interrogates how technology that we deem as progressive could remain bound to the reproduction and systemization of gender roles. It stems from the artist’s ongoing exploration of how patriarchal structures are perpetuated within the domestic sphere. The artist dissects the ways gendered hierarchies are embedded into technological design, especially in the way they are reiterated, performed and quietly sustained through systems of care work. Attuned to the linguistic gestures of care work, the artist traces the subtle transition of these verbal acts into forms of technological sense.

‘49 Days’ revolves around the ceremony for the deceased who are around us. This is a record of the 49 days of the living, dedicated to the deceased. In Buddhism, when someone dies, their soul is believed to be held for 49 days between death and rebirth. This ceremony helps the soul reincarnate to a better place.
