2025Between Belonging Art Düsseldorf Düsseldorf, Duitsland BETWEEN BELONGING – BR-Group-Exhibition 2024-25 Borderland Residencies is pleased to announce the group exhibition BETWEEN BELONGING, which takes place from 11th-26th April, 2025 at Weltkunstzimmer Düsseldorf! A temporary stay in a new region or at a border often raises questions about one's own identity. How do I position myself? Where do I belong? As a result, a feeling of "in-betweenness" frequently emerges. This is a phenomenon that the 2024-25 Borderland Residencies scholarship holders explored during their field trips in the border region between Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium. borderland-residencies.eu/group-exhibition-2024-25/ Groep

Through a place-bound responsive sound installation and performative listening sessions, “As Roots Grow Back Into Us“ guides the path to a sonic underworld that extends beyond human time and boundaries. 2021After Progress Digital Exhibition Unit of Play, Goldsmiths University of London and Nottingham Trent University The internet , Verenigd Koninkrijk The audiovisual, digital artwork Stable Unstable Earth will be exhibited at the After Progress Digital Exhibition curated by Dr Martin Savransky (Goldsmiths University of London) and Dr Craig Lundy (Nottingham Trent University) and the Unit of Play. It will be published in Winter of 2021/2022. Stable Unstable Earth explores the combination of imag- ined and predicted scenarios about the future develop- ment and interaction with our Earth’s carrying capacity. We tell the story of human’s interference with our planet. The Planetary Boundaries concept is used to define the condition under which our Earth system is stable. Consid- ering a stable Earth system as a desirable image of how our biophysical Earth will look like after progress, the au- diovisual piece takes the audience through a journey ex- periencing the dynamic interactions between the Earth system processes themselves, and their interaction from the audience’s imagined futures. Stable Unstable Earth is an outcome of the artscience collaboration Vekselvirkninger. www.afterprogress.com/ Groep

Virus Self-initiated Aarhus, Denemarken www.kp-spring.dk/en/virus-2/ Virus is a continuous sound piece that interprets the encounter between virus and cell. The sonic cycle consists of different stages from the virus collision with the cell; the penetration of the cell membrane; uncoating of the virus in the cell where the genome is released; replication of the genome; assembly of the parts for new vira; and finally, the release of the new virus particles from the cell to the rest of the body. In every cycle each stage varies in length as well as expression, resulting in a unique experience for each encounter. This sound piece was programmed in Max MSP and made in collaboration with artist Daniela Maciel.

Vekselvirkninger Artscience collaboration Copenhagen, Denemarken vekselvirkninger.dk/ Vekselvirkninger (Synergies) investigates the synergies between art and science, and relies on a collaboration with PhD student Eldbjørg B. Vea from the Sustainability Division at DTU (the Technical University of Denmark). In a parallel process, we process models and methods for measuring environmental impact and sustainability, focusing on the specific phenomenon of eutrophication (water bodies over-enriched with minerals and nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphor). The process will manifest through different artistic and scientific outcomes including a PhD thesis, several art pieces and explorative experiments into science communication. Vekselvirkninger was started in 2020 and is still in progress. So far the piece Stable Unstable Earth is the first artistic outcome.

TUSMØRKE (Aura no. II and III) self-initiated funded project Aarhus and Aalborg, Denemarken Light installation exhibited through Aarhus Sound Art Festival and Art Room 1000fryd (Aalborg) 2020 Tusmørke (Aura no. II ) duration: 18 min Tusmørke (Aura no. III ) duration: 7 hours Tusmørke (Aura no. II and III) are light installations that combine artificial and natural light at the transition from light to darkness. Through a timespecific composition that is adjusted to the exact moments of the transisitons from civil, nautic and austronomial twilight a the respective date the light compostitions complement and infiltrate this change from day to night. With a starting point of the exact time of the sunset, a twilight compositions explore the relationship between light and darkness, natural and artificial light in a ‘light-specific’ context. With the invention of electric light the darkness has become alien and unfamiliar to us and we can easily avoid it especially in the cities. This has allowed for activities during all time of day, and light pollution is becoming an increasing problem that distorts the biological rhythms of ecosystems and living organisms including humans. Light is information and clarity. Light and movement draw our attention. And in the information society the highest value lies in where we focus our attention. What happens if the darkness is invited back into the consciousness? Not many generations ago there was a time where the darkness was a crucial element in everyday experiences. Especially in the North the darkness would fill most of the day in the winter. In the darkness there is space for imagination to unfold, and in the unknown — space for uncertainty and the ambiguous.

ORAKLET MANA:GROUP artist collective Copenhagen, Denemarken christinehvidt.dk/html/work/oraklet.html ORAKLET is an immersive performance concert that unfolds around the oracle as a spiritual and technological phenomenon. The audience has the opportunity to ask the modern oracle questions that will be answered through ritual dream elements, light, sound, and movement which all together forms a compound system evolved from conceptions of the historical oracle. Our human nature holds the fear of the unknown. Throughout history, the narrative of people always has involved rituals centred around the clarification on existential questions. Every religion, cult and clan have posed questions and sought meaning through a system of unique, ritual actions that helped them interpret the answer. Even though we feel more enlightened than ever before this counts today as well. But to which places do we look for answers to our questions and how could a modern day oracle alternatively be embodied? ORAKLET is created by MANA:GROUP : Maria Nadia : Sound, vocal Linh Le: Performer Christine Hvidt : Light, sculptures

What the Voices in the Water Whispered through the Waves Aalborg University (DK) Aalborg, Denemarken www.christinehvidt.dk/html/work/ba.html What the voices in the waters whispered through the waves is the artistic outcome created specifically for the arts-related Bachelor thesis at the study Art and Technology at Aalborg University (DK). The artistic research project seeks to investigate realisations that emerge from experiences with products representing respectively the domain of science and art. The project addresses the challenge that science face to communicate the message of urgency in relation to environmental challenges. The sound installation What the voices in the waters whispered through the waves is created on base of tech- nological, theoretical, aesthetic, artistic, and academic concerns. Through a real time audio stream from a re- motely placed hydrophone, the installation reveals an acoustic environment that we do not encounter in our everyday existence. The underwater sounds are detect- ed in the field and transmitted to the installation at the exhibition area where the system analyses the sound and classifies it in one of three categories: anthrophony, biophony and geophony. The live audio is outputted together with pre-recorded sounds that represents the catego- ries, and the volume of these pre-recorded sounds is defined by their occurrence in the detected soundscape at the underwater site.
