Since 2023 Alex has been working on her painting series ‘Royal Blue’. Royal Blue is a modern day interpretation of the Dutch shore landscape. The sea, the dunes and the sky are omnipresent in her work. Alex brings her experience of the turbulent weather alive in her paintings; color, dynamics and movement, but also her emotions and memoires are brought together in these works. The paintings manifest themselves through their materiality, however the works bring an unique experience to the spectator. The name of the exhibition is both a reference to the ‘royal’ city of The Hague, where she lives and works, as it is to the color ‘royal blue’. Royal Blue reflects the color of the sky and the ocean, a vibrant and ever changing blue. With Royal Blue Alex places herself in the long tradition of Dutch landscape painting, romanticism and expressionist abstract painting. She is very adaptive of her surroundings. In developing her practice she found her resources in sports and nature. The speed, action, movement and tranquility of both nature and sport is very visible in her work.
