Manon Bovenkerk: "My work consists of drawings and video's in the fringe area of graphic novels, drawing, cinema and animation. The images I use are often derivates from cinema and recognisable as camera shots, so the resonate a familiar meaning. At the same time I use them for a very particular universe of association and interpretation. By working in large series of drawings I can allow the story to originate freely, from picking and choosing images but also from the act of drawing itself. It is a way of letting the subconscious and visceral take over the rational, to focus on ambiguity, a way not to be sure. Besides working as a visual artist I am currently curating ZAAL5, the platform for moving images at Filmhuis Den Haag. Before that I worked for the Urban Explorers Festival in Dordrecht (artistic coordination) and independent art spaces such as Foundation Artis in Den Bosch and Nieuwe Vide in Haarlem".

Omschrijving I was one of seven comtemporary artists who were invited to add their own topical and personal standpoints in the form of wall paintings that establish a dialogue with the works on display. The theme of my cabinet was melancholy and it featured works by Jan Mankes, the brothers Maris, Theo van Doesburg, Henri Fantin-Latour and others. It turned out a quite romantic, athmospheric and intimate little room.
