Philine van den Hul (1991) is a visual artist based in The Netherlands. Having experimented with many different mediums and techniques from the outset of her career, her artistic identity and creativity is characterised by her instinctual creative method and way of seeing rather than the mastery of a specific medium. Maintaining an approach that always heavily relies on instinct and spontaneity, she avoids conceptual narratives as a starting point and is driven to create works that synthesise the world around her and her own mental space into new realms. As such, her works are the fruits of a puzzle solving process in which she herself and the world are pieces. Where her early works focus on spatial experience, geometric shapes and textures, her more recent creations have as their subject human individuals, that she often scouts on the street and captures in both static and moving image through photography and film: ‘ Without intending to do so, I often find myself caught up in a way of seeing that transforms individuals almost to divine entities, resulting in an obsessive need to capture them, even if we’ve never met, and might never meet again.’
