Omschrijving werk
I perform music with my own alternative instruments and sound installations.
My works focus on the mutual influence of the music, the instrument and the notational system.
The instruments contain the duality that enables them to be presented both as installations on exhibitions and as instruments on concerts.
I have always found it infuriating how we as composers are limited by structures given to us from the past.
I think here about the structures given by the build-in possibilities and limitations of the traditional system of music notation, the traditional instruments, traditional 12-tone tuning system, traditional concert situation and traditional hierarchy between composer, conductor, musician and listener.
These are all spoken or unspoken rules that has influenced music thinking through history at still does today.
To become free of these historical boundaries I started working on new systems of notation, new instruments, new tuning system and so on.
I find this process of changing the rules so inspiring that I have turned my focus towards the rules themselves.
My goal is thereby to create new worlds of possibilities and limitations rather than new fixed works within a given set of rules."
