Alex Kals: I feel attracted to social philosophic aspects of the human being in relation with his environment which he creates and where he ends up either being aware of or not. This way of observing offers me the scenes that i photograph. They indicate life in a way that surprises me. I play with elements such as perception and photographic suggestion. A photo taken in daily life turns into analysis. The world created by sense, historic meaning and ethics is not the actual one. The 'real' world bubbels behind and underneath. In a certain way my photos can be seen as scetches of society where the viewer accepts them the way they are or is welcome to research the cause closer. "I want to have a strong impact on the viewer with the theme and my photos. I am trying to develop a subtile image language and get as close to my theme as possible and end up stuck in it like a gnarly dog does when bitting someone.I as good as i can try to avoid the safe secure way of thinking. While working i always listen very carefully to my instincts. The last years i was mainly focusing on the so called downside of society and my desire for esthetic give my work a bit of a poetic touch and so my characters look like heroes. Lately i was experimenting with installations where my photography mixes up with film and sound."
