Educated in Fine Art as an artist both in South Africa as well as in the Netherlands, Ciska de Hartogh seeks to create art that is more then purely aesthetical shapes and streamlined forms, by creating artworks which serve or are instrumental to raising awarness about the general quality of life. Her artworks deal with subjects such as love, tolerance and the way in which human dignity is affected by conflicts, poverty and illness in the world. After an artistic education at the Ruth Prowse School of Fine Art in Cape Town, De Hartogh graduated in Fine Art (2005) at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. Since then the City Council of The Hague puts at her disposal theThe Hague City Hall for her annual exhibitions of gigantic sculptures of 8m height, inspired on De Hartogh’s ten years experience with AIDS on the African continent. The sculptures are build throughout the years interactively at festivals with hundreds of volunteers. Onto the monumental sculptures video images of AIDS infected children are projected, anxiously looking down on the audiences below. De Hartogh’s work which has initiated the Love Life Festival in The Hague and has received a great amount of media attention: i.e. a 10 minute TV Special in 2004, an extensive interview in Life Style Magazine Felderhof, as well as dozens of free publicity newspaperarticles, radio broadcasting interviews, and webblog articles. In 2010 Ciska was awarded the 2010 Green Apple Award by the University of California, Los Angeles, USA, during the Green Lifestyle Film Festival for an Outstanding Contribution to a Sustainable Lifestyle.
